TIPS 069: J'神隠し'

古来の日本では、なんの前触れもなく
人が失踪したり、行方不明になったりすることを
神隠しと呼んで恐れた。
その背景には、山や森などを神格化して畏れ敬う、
自然崇拝の考えが色濃くあるものと見られる。
過去の記録をひも解くと、神隠しにあった人間は、
その後、再び人々の前に帰ってくる例も
あったとされる。

少し見方を変えれば、ある日こつ然と姿を消した
浦島太郎も、彼に近しい者達にとっては
神隠しも同然であったかもしれない。
『くるみの神隠し事件』に見舞われた守野夫妻や。
いづみの心境を思うと、察するに余りある。
のちに、いづみが科学の道を志して成功するのは、
非科学的で悪夢のような体験が
原動力となっていたのかもしれない。
すべては真実を解き明かし、くるみを救うために……。

TIPS 069: E'Spirited Away'

Spiriting away is a term used throughout Japanese history to describe unexplained vanishings.
This belief is thought to be heavily influenced by animism, where the mountains and forests are deified and respected out of fear.
Close examination of historical records reveals that there were times where people who had been spirited away later returned.

When Rip van Winkle suddenly disappeared, perhaps his family and friends had thought he had been spirited away.
It would  be nearly impossible to try to imagine  the Morino family's mental state after Kurumi's "spirited away incident."
The driving force behind Izumi's success in traveling down the path of science
might ironically be attributed to this unscientific, nightmarish personal experience of hers.
It was to be able to explain the truth behind the incident in order to help her sister...
