TIPS 093: J'くらげ'

漢字では海月、もしくは水母と書く。
他にも、水月、鏡虫とも。
ゼラチン質でできた傘のような体と触手を持ち、
海中を浮遊して生きる刺胞動物の一種。
中でも体長がわずか１cmほどのベニクラゲは、
ある一定期間を生きると、
自らの体を幼生体に若返らせるという
不思議な能力があり、
文字通りの永遠の命を持っていることで知られる。

海の中をふわりふわりと漂うように、
永遠の時を生き続ける……。
その心情は、どのようなものであろうか。
なお余談だが、『海』と『月』は、
このシリーズ通して登場する重要キーワードである。

TIPS 093: E'Jellyfish'

  
A living species of cnidarian that floats in the water,
whose body looks like a gelatinous umbrella that possesses tentacles.
Among their numbers is the immortal jellyfish, whose body is a mere one centimeter in length.
It has a relatively fixed period lifespan, but it has the mysterious ability to
revert its own body into a polyp state, so it is known
for literally possessing eternal life.

Casually and gently floating in the ocean,
continuing to live on for eternity...
What does it feel about that?
Incidentally, in Japanese, jellyfish is written with the characters for sea (海) and moon (月).
These two are important keywords that continue to show up in this series.
