The nurse thought that there might have been an emergency and quickly rushed down toward the main gate, but once she got there, "her" figure was nowhere to be seen.

There was no one groaning in agony, no one weeping in despair.

A sharp shriek had violated the silence. That's when it all began.

The nurse call signs lit up one by one, and then the alarms sounded, echoing throughout the hospital.

The on-duty doctors split up and rushed to the sickrooms.

そうしている間にも悲鳴や叫喚はあちこちから響き渡り、それは病室から病室、病棟から病棟へと次々に伝播していった。%K%P

A lone doctor opened up the door to one of the hospital rooms.

壁にはおびただしい量の鮮血が付着しリノリウムの床も黒々と濡れていた。%K%N
An incredible amount of fresh blood stained the walls and the linoleum floor crimson.

飛び散った血液が飛沫となって宙を漂っている。%K%N
A thin mist of spattered blood hung in the air.

粘ついた臭気が鼻腔や肺の奥をじくじくと侵蝕していった。%K%N
The sickening, persistent odor made its way to the doctor's nose and settled itself deep in his lungs.

The doctor instinctively covered his mouth.

動かなくなった肉の塊が２体、床の上に転がっていた。%K%N
Two motionless lumps of flesh lay there, sprawled over the beds.

一方の胸部は無惨にも斬り裂かれ、右の肋骨が外側へと露出していた。%K%N
One had had its chest brutally torn open. The right half of the ribcage was sticking out from the body cavity.

The heart was gone.

部屋の隅、轢き殺されたカエルのように平たくなったそれを見つけた。%K%N
He found it in the corner of the room, squished flat like a frog that had been run over by a truck.

恐らく何者かが壁に向かって投げつけたのだろう。%K%N
As if someone had hurled it at the wall in a fit of rage.

乳白色に塗られた壁の表面には、心臓のずり落ちた跡が鮮やかに残っていた。%K%N
The heart had left a vivid streak of bright red on the milky white wall as it slid its way down to the floor.

恐らく、院内へ侵入しようとした犯人を引き止めようとして殺されたのだろう。%K%N
