この構造物が避難小屋ではないことは、考えるまでもなくわかった。%K%P Obviously, this building isn't the shelter cabin. ここは『避難小屋空間』ではない。%K%P This isn't the "shelter cabin area." だとしたら、どこなのか……？%K%P But if that's the case, then where am I...? ――『第３空間』だ。%K%P ――The "third area." 常に青鷺島に残留していた『オレの意識』は、%K%P "My consciousness," which had always stayed behind at Aosagi Island... オレの肉体からα肉体へと乗り移り、こころ肉体へと乗り移り、再びオレの肉体に戻り……というようなことを繰り返してきた。%K%P ...had transferred from my body to α's body, then to Kokoro's body, back to my body again... repeating over and over again like that. 言い換えると、３つの空間が青鷺島に転移してくる順番は、%K%P In other words, the sequential order of the three areas being teleported to Aosagi Island is... 『スフィア空間→第３空間→避難小屋空間→スフィア空間→第３空間→避難小屋空間→……』となる。%K%P "SPHIA area → third area → shelter cabin area → SPHIA area → third area → shelter cabin area → ..." つまり、スフィア空間のあとには第３空間が、第３空間のあとには避難小屋空間が、いつでも飛ばされてくるということだ。%K%P Basically after SPHIA, it's the third area's turn; after the third area, the shelter cabin comes next, and so on. そして、直前までこの青鷺島にあったのは『スフィア空間』である。%K%P And, until just a little while ago, the "SPHIA area" was on Aosagi Island. すると、４時４８分の時空間転移によって姿を現したこの場所は――『第３空間』――。%K%P Due to the space-time transfer at 4:48, the place that appeared here is――"the third area"―― 結論はいともたやすく導かれた。%K%P Quite a simple deduction. ところで、第３空間が青鷺島にとどまっていられる時間はどれぐらいだろうか……？%K%P Anyway, how long will the third area remain here...? ３３分間だ。%K%P 33 minutes. ということは、４時４８分の３３分後――５時２１分には次の転移が発生し、この空間は１年前の朱倉岳へと飛ばされてしまうことになる。%K%P Which means that the next transfer is going to occur 33 minutes after 4:48――at 5:21, and then the Mount Akakura of one year ago will arrive. オレはポケットから腕時計を取り出し、もう一度時刻を確かめた。%K%P I reached into my pocket and took out my wristwatch. ５時１８分を過ぎている。%K%P It's 5:18. 次の転移まで、あと３分を切っていた。%K%P Three minutes until the next transfer. 扉を開いている余裕などない。%K%P I had no time to open the door. オレは慌てて立ち上がり、ハシゴに向かって駆け寄った。%K%P I stood up in a hurry and rushed over to the ladder. 流れ落ちるようにそれをくだり、地面に降り立つ。%K%P I practically flowed down it and descended to the ground. サークルの外までは１１０ｍ……。%K%P 110 meters from the circumference.... 全力で走れば充分間に合う距離だった。%K%P If I ran as fast as my legs could possibly carry me, I'd make it. オレは大地を蹴って駆け出した。%K%P I kicked off the ground and took off running. 濡れた岩肌に足を取られる。%K%P The slickness of the rocks underfoot made me stumble. つるつると滑って転びそうになる。%K%P They were so wet I was scared my feet would slip at any moment. どうにか体勢を立て直し、なおも足を振り上げ続けた。%K%P I corrected my posture and propelled myself forward. 高く降り積もった雪の中に飛び込む。%K%P I jumped into the deep snowbank. 転移空間との境界を越えた。%K%P At last, I crossed the boundary line of the circle. それでもまだ安心はできない。%K%P But I couldn't relax yet. できるだけ遠くまで離れた方がいいと思った。%K%P I decided to get as far away from the circle as possible. 素早く立ち上がり、雪を掻き分けて走る。%K%P I quickly stood up and began to make my way through the snow. ようやく海岸までたどりついた。%K%P I finally arrived at the coast. 波打ち際で足を止め、振り返る。%K%P I stopped at the beach and turned around. 現在時刻――午前５時２１分。%K%P Present time――5:21 AM. 瞬間、むき出しの大地が消え去った。%K%P For an instant, the bare ground disappeared. 次に現れたのは、純白の雪化粧をまとった小高い丘だった。%K%P What materialized next was a slightly elevated hill clad in a mantle of pure white snow. まるでスライドが切り替わるように、景色はたちまちにして変貌を遂げた。%K%P Like a slide on a projector being clicked into place, the landscape had undergone a sudden transformation. 音はなかった。%K%P Without a sound. 光も震動もなく、気づいたときには何事もなかったかのように小高い丘が横たわっていた。%K%P Not even a flicker of light. Before I'd noticed, the elevated hill appeared, as if nothing had happened at all. ただ、風だけが吹いている。%K%P All I could hear was the wind howling. サークルの内側から外側に向かってゆるやかに流れていた。%K%P A gentle breeze was flowing from inside the circle, and out of it. 細かい水蒸気の群れ……大きな霧の塊が、きのこ雲のように湧きあがるのも見えた。%K%P I could see a cloud of fine water vapor... a great billowing mist that welled up like a mushroom cloud. けれど、それは闇の中に呑み込まれて、すぐに姿を消してしまった。%K%P But it was soon swallowed into the darkness, and erased. 時空間転移の様子を目の当たりにしたのは、これで２度目だ。%K%P This was the second time I'd come face to face with the truth of the space-time transfer. 信じがたい光景ではあったが、我を取り戻すまでにそう時間はかからなかった。%K%P It was a truly unbelievable spectacle, but I had no time to spare. 砂を蹴って走り出す。%K%P I kicked the sand up and started running... 丘の向こう側を目指して……。%K%P To the other side of the hill.... そこには避難小屋があるはずだ。%K%P To the shelter cabin. 小屋の中には４人がいる。%K%P Four people were inside. オレは彼らをサークル外へと連れ出してやらなければならないのだった。%K%P I had to take them out of the circle. ただそのことだけを考えて、ひたすら足を動かし続けた。%K%P With only that thought in mind, I determinedly ran. 丘の上にのぼりつめると、見慣れた光景が広がっていた。%K%P When I reached the top of the hill, I was greeted by a familiar scene. 円形に切り取られたすりばち状の窪地……。%K%P The bowl-shaped hollow.... その中央には思ったとおり、避難小屋が立っていた。%K%P In the middle of it stood the shelter cabin. 斜面を駆け下りようとする。%K%P I was about to run down the slope. しかし直前に思いとどまった。%K%P But just before I took off, I suddenly stopped. 人影が、見えたのだ。%K%P A shadow had entered my vision. すでに東の空は薄っすらと白み始めている。%K%P The eastern sky had already begun to brighten. そのほのかな明かりに照らされて、人影が誰なのかはすぐにわかった。%K%P Against that illuminated background, I realized pretty quickly whose shadow it was. 悟「こころだ……」%K%P Kokoro! こころは雪に覆われた斜面を駆け上っていた。%K%P Kokoro was running up the snow-covered slope. オレの立っている場所とは正反対……。%K%P Right across from where I was standing.... 避難小屋を挟んだ向こう側に、彼女の姿はあった。%K%P She was there, the shelter cabin between me and her. こころ「来ちゃダメー！」%K%P Don't follow me! こころ「小屋に戻ってー！」%K%P Get back in the cabin! こころ「戻りなさい！」%K%P Go back right now! こころが丘の中腹で振り返る。%K%P Kokoro stopped halfway up the slope and turned around. その視線の先には、鈴とゆにの姿があった。%K%P Lin and Yuni had appeared just behind her. ふたりもまた、こころの後を追い駆けて、雪深い斜面をのぼっていた。%K%P They were climbing up the snowy slope, chasing after Kokoro. このまま行けば、３人はサークル外へと脱するだろう。%K%P If they kept going, they would escape the circle. おあつらえ向きだ。誘導してやる手間が省けた。%K%P Good timing. That saves me getting them out of there myself. けれど……黄泉木は……？%K%P But... Yomogi...? 黄泉木の姿だけが見当たらなかった。%K%P I couldn't see him. ひとりだけ、小屋に残っているのだろうか？%K%P Did he stay in the cabin by himself? 思うよりも先に身体は動き出していた。%K%P I started moving before I could stop to think about it. 深雪を蹴飛ばしながら、ゆるやかな斜面を駆け下りていく。%K%P Kicking up the deep snow, I ran down the gentle slope. 扉を開け放ち、小屋に転がり込んだ。%K%P I flung the door open and threw myself inside. 悟「はぁはぁはぁはぁはぁ……」%K%P Haah haah haah haah... 誰も、いなかった。%K%P There was no one there. もぬけの殻……。%K%P A cast-off shell.... 主を失った室内は、不気味なほどに静まり返っていた。%K%P The room, empty of its occupants, was deeply ominous, still as death. 地下倉庫をのぞき込んでみる。%K%P I tried looking down into the underground storeroom. やはり黄泉木の姿はなかった。%K%P But Yomogi wasn't there. 悟「なんでだよ……」%K%P Why...? 悟「なんでいないんだよ……」%K%P Why isn't he here? 悟「ったく、どこ行っちまったんだよ、あのオッサンは！」%K%P Damn! Where'd the old geezer go? 身をひるがえし、表に飛び出す。%K%P I turned on my heel and rushed back outside. ラッセルした痕跡は２つしか残されていなかった。%K%P There were only two trails through the snow. 一方はオレが刻んできたもの……。%K%P One is mine.... もう一方は、こころと鈴とゆにが斜面を駆け上っていったときにできたものだ。%K%P And the other belongs to Kokoro, Lin and Yuni when they left to climb the slope. 痕跡は丘の頂きまで続いていた。%K%P The second trail continued uninterrupted to the summit. ３人の姿は見えない。%K%P I couldn't see them. 悟「くっそ……！」%K%P Dammit...! 忌々しく吐いて、再び走り出す。%K%P And with a shout of frustration, I resumed running. 黄泉木がどこに行ったのか、３人から聞き出さなければ……。%K%P I had to ask them about Yomogi.... 斜面をのぼり切った。%K%P I reached the summit. 雪を掻き分けた跡は、海岸へと達し、消えていた。%K%P The signs of their passage through the snow continued to the coast, where they vanished. ３人の姿を求めて、渚を見渡す。%K%P I scanned the shoreline for them. 大きく湾曲した砂浜……。%K%P The great curve of the sandy beach.... やや北上した位置に、彼らの影を見つけた。%K%P I spotted them, a little to the north of where I was. 走る、走る、走る……。%K%P I ran, and ran, and ran.... 一度波打ち際に出てから、雪のない渚を走った。%K%P Once I got to the beach, I ran along the water's snow-less edge. 左腕と背中の傷は、いまだ完全には癒えていなかった。%K%P The wounds on my arm and back hadn't completely healed yet. オレの身体はボロボロ……。%K%P I was all worn out.... しなびたキュウリみたいにくたびれ果てていた。%K%P My energy was quickly running out. それでもオレは足を止めない。%K%P But I couldn't stop. 満身創痍の身体に鞭を打ち、わきめも振らずに駆け抜けた。%K%P Spurring my battered body forward, I ran on. 今、ゆには砂浜の上にしゃがみ込んで、波と戯れている。%K%P Yuni was crouched on the beach, splashing playfully in the waves. そのすぐそばで、こころもうずくまっていた。%K%P Kokoro was next to him. 鈴だけが立ったままの姿勢で、ふたりのことを見下ろしている。%K%P Only Lin stood up, looking down at them. そのとき――。%K%P At that moment―― ふいに、ゆにが顔をあげた。%K%P Yuni's head suddenly shot up. オレの存在に気づいたらしい。%K%P He'd noticed me. 他のふたりに向かって何か言ったが、ここからでは声は聞き取れなかった。%K%P He turned to the other two and said something I couldn't catch. こころがこちらに顔を向ける。%K%P Kokoro looked up at me. すっくと立ち上がり、オレの方に向かって走り出した。%K%P She got to her feet, and suddenly came running toward me. こころ「黄泉木さーん！！」%K%P Yomogi-saan!! 黄泉木……？%K%P Yomogi...? 意味がわからない。%K%P Why Yomogi? 足を動かしながら振り返ってみたが、こんなところに黄泉木がいるはずはなかった。%K%P I tried to look back over my shoulder while still running, but there was no way Yomogi could be there. オレとこころの距離は徐々に狭まっていく。%K%P The distance between Kokoro and I gradually began to narrow. ふと、こころが立ち止まった。%K%P Suddenly, Kokoro stopped short. こころ「あなたは――」%K%P You're―― オレは足を止めない。%K%P I didn't stop running. さらに距離を詰めていく。%K%P The distance separating us grew shorter and shorter. こころ「悟……」%K%P Satoru... 呟いた彼女……。%K%P She murmured.... 眉間に深くしわを刻んで、瞳を揺らしている。%K%P She knit her brow, her pupils swimming. 明らかな戸惑いの表情……。%K%P She was clearly shocked.... 事態が呑み込めずに混乱を来たしているようだ。%K%P She was struggling to come to terms with the situation before her. なるほど……。%K%P I see.... 彼女がオレの姿を見て『黄泉木さん』と言った理由がようやくわかった。%K%P I finally understood why she shouted "Yomogi-san" when she caught sight of me. 彼女は時空間転移のことも、３点転移のことも、何も知らないのだ。%K%P She doesn't know anything about the space-time transfer, nor about the three areas. こんなところに海岸があることや、突然オレの姿が出現したことを、彼女はまったく理解できていないのだろう。%K%P She can't comprehend why there's a beach here, nor why I suddenly appeared. こころ「あ……あ……あ……」%K%P Y... y... y... こころ「あ、あなた……は……」%K%P Y, you... you're... 彼女の前に立つ。%K%P She stood before me. 肩で息をしながら、彼女を見つめた。%K%P I gazed at her, my shoulders heaving. 朝陽に照らされた海岸で、オレとこころは向かい合っていた。%K%P Kokoro and I stood on the beach, gazing at each other's faces as the sunrise illuminated us. こころ「なんで……？」%K%P Why...? こころ「なんで、悟がここに……？」%K%P Why are you here, Satoru...? 無理矢理絞り出したようなかすれた声……。%K%P Her voice trembled as she barely managed to speak. どう説明すればいいのだろうか、オレは返答に窮してしまった。%K%P I was at a loss for how to answer her. How could I explain everything to her? ただ、なにも言わずにじっと彼女の瞳を見つめるばかり……。%K%P I did nothing but stand motionless, my eyes fixed on her, not saying a word.... オレはもちろん、彼女がここに存在する理由を知っている。%K%P I know why she's here. けれど、こうして改めて対峙すると、なんだか妙な気分だった。%K%P But now that I was face to face with her like this, I felt a little strange. 今までずっと逢いたかったのに、逢えなかった彼女……。%K%P The one I always wanted to meet, but never could.... 一度もしゃべったことはないのに、誰よりも身近に感じる女の子……。%K%P Even though we hadn't spoken even once, she felt closer to me than anyone else.... その彼女が今、オレの目の前にいる……。%K%P And here she was at last, right before my eyes.... 自分の意思を持って、オレに語りかけてきている。%K%P She had her own will, and she was talking to me. つい２日前までは、オレが自由に操ることのできたその身体……。%K%P That body, which I could freely control until days ago.... 今は、オレのものではない。%K%P It's not mine anymore. オレのものではないけれど、オレ自身のようにも、分身のようにも、思えた。%K%P It wasn't, but it was so much like my own body, and at the same time, like another self. それはなんとも言いようのない不思議な感覚だった。%K%P A strange feeling I couldn't possibly describe. だが、今はそんな感慨に耽っている場合ではない。%K%P But now's not the time to get wrapped up in such warm emotions. ３人はサークル外へと脱出した。%K%P The three of them had escaped from the circle. それはいいとして……黄泉木は……！？%K%P That's all well and good... but what about Yomogi...?! 黄泉木はどこに行ってしまったのだ……！？%K%P Where did Yomogi go...?! と思った次の瞬間――。%K%P The next instant―― 悟「そうか……」%K%P I see... 悟「やはり、そういうことなのか」%K%P So that's how it is after all. 天啓を得るがごとく、オレはたちどころにしてすべてを悟った。%K%P As though I'd received divine guidance, I understood everything at once. こころは遠方にあったオレの姿を見て『黄泉木さん』と叫んだ。%K%P Kokoro had shouted "Yomogi-san" when she saw me from far away. 恐らく、黄泉木は転移前にサークル外に出てしまったのだろう。%K%P Yomogi probably left the circle before the transfer. だからこころは、彼を探すためにすりばち状の窪地から這い上がったのだ。%K%P So Kokoro crawled out of that bowl-shaped hollow to go look for him. ということは、黄泉木は今……。%K%P Which means that right now, Yomogi is.... こころ「悟……ねえ……どうして……」%K%P Satoru... hey... why...? こころがくちを開く。%K%P Kokoro tried to say something. 悟「話は後だ！」%K%P We'll talk later! オレは厳しい口調で言い放ち、彼女の言葉を遮った。%K%P I interrupted her with a stern declaration. 悟「急がないと、大変なことになる！」%K%P If I don't hurry, something terrible will happen! こころ「大変……って……？」%K%P What do you mean... something terrible...? 悟「お前達はここで待ってるんだ！」%K%P You guys wait here! 時間がない。急がなければ。%K%P I had no time to waste. オレはこころにそう告げて、走り出した。%K%P After leaving my warning with Kokoro, I started to run. こころ「待って……！」%K%P Wait...! こころ「どこ……どこ行くのよぉ……！」%K%P Where... where are you going...?! こころが後を追い駆けて来る。%K%P Kokoro chased after me. こころ「待って……待ってってば！」%K%P Wait... please wait! 悟「ついてくるな！」%K%P Don't follow me! 事情を説明している暇はなかった。%K%P I didn't have time to explain. 彼女の声を振り払うように走り続けた。%K%P I kept running, trying to shake her off as she kept calling out to me. 現在時刻――午前５時５３分。%K%P Present time――5:53 AM. 次の転移まで、あと１分を切っていた。%K%P Only one minute before the next transfer. 雪の中に踏む込む。%K%P I stepped onto the snow. サークルはもうすぐそこだ。%K%P The circle was right ahead. 転移空間に入り込まなければ１年前の朱倉岳には行けない。%K%P I can't return to Mount Akakura if I don't enter the transfer area. しかし――。%K%P But―― 悟「ちっ、間に合わなかったか……！」%K%P Damn, I didn't make it...?! 開かれたままのスフィアのゲート。%K%P The gate of SPHIA stood open before me. オレはよろよろと力無くそのゲートをくぐった。%K%P I dragged myself through it on leaden feet. こころ「これって……どういうこと……？」%K%P What... is this...? こころ「避難小屋は……どこに行っちゃったの……？」%K%P Where did the shelter cabin go...? こころがついてくる。%K%P Kokoro followed me. 魂が抜けたように茫然としていた。%K%P She was dumbfounded, as though her soul had left her body. 悟「鈴とゆには？」%K%P Where are Lin and Yuni? こころ「えっと……えっと……」%K%P Ahh... umm... こころ「私のあと……走ってたと思うけど……」%K%P I think... they ran after me, but... オレはこころをその場に残し、再びゲートをくぐった。%K%P I left Kokoro there and went back out through the gate. あたりを見まわし、ふたりの姿を探す。%K%P I took a look around for them. すぐに見つかった。%K%P I found them pretty quickly. 鈴はくちをあんぐりとあけて、高い塀を見上げている。%K%P Lin stood there in open-mouthed shock, staring up at the high wall. その傍らで、ゆにはなぜか平然としていた。%K%P Right next to her was Yuni, who was somehow quite calm. 悟「ゆに！ 鈴を頼む！」%K%P Yuni! I'm leaving Lin to you! オレがそう告げると、ゆにはコクリとうなずいた。%K%P Yuni simply nodded. 鈴の腕をぐいぐいと引いて、海岸へと向かう。%K%P He took Lin's arm and dragged her back out toward the coast. 鈴は何度も何度も振り返りながら、不思議そうに首をひねっていた。%K%P She looked back at me again and again, her head inclined to the side in puzzlement. 遠ざかっていくふたりの後ろ姿を確かめてから、オレはこころのもとに戻った。%K%P After I watched them leave, I returned to Kokoro. 悟「さあ、おまえも外に出るんだ」%K%P All right, now you leave too. こころの肩に手をかけて、ゲートの方へといざなう。%K%P I put a hand on Kokoro's shoulder and urged her toward the gate. こころ「ちょ、ちょっと、待ってよぉ！」%K%P W, wait, wait just a minute! こころ「何なのよ、これ！」%K%P What's going on?! こころ「どういうことなの！？」%K%P What's the meaning of this?! こころ「なんでスフィアがここにあるの！？」%K%P Why is SPHIA here?! こころ「さっきまでは避難小屋があったはずじゃない！」%K%P The shelter cabin was right here just a second ago! こころ「なのに、どうして……！？」%K%P So how...?! こころ「それから悟！」%K%P And you, Satoru! こころ「悟はどうしてここにいるの！？」%K%P How can you be here?! こころ「あっ……」%K%P Ah... こころ「でもここはスフィアだから、悟がいるのは当然なのか……」%K%P But since this is SPHIA, I guess it's natural for Satoru to be here... こころ「えっ？ だけど、それじゃあ私は？？？」%K%P Ehh? But then, what about me??? こころ「私はなんで、こんなところに？？？」%K%P How can I be here??? こころ「あーっ！ もうわけわかんないよぅー！」%K%P Aaah! What the heck is going on?! こころ「悟、なにが起きたのか知ってるんでしょ！」%K%P Satoru, you know what's happening, don't you?! こころ「ちゃんと説明してよ！」%K%P Tell me what's going on! こころ「説明してくれるまで、私は一歩もここを動かないからね！」%K%P I'm not taking another step until you do! 一気に、まくしたてるように彼女はぶちまけた。%K%P She expelled all that in a single breath. その勢いに呑まれ、辟易するオレ……。%K%P Overpowered, I shrank back.... この期に及んでごまかすことはできない。%K%P There was no way I'd be able to fool her so easily this late in the game. 悟「はぁ……」%K%P Haaaah... オレはため息をつき……。%K%P I heaved a sigh.... 悟「ついてきてくれ……」%K%P Follow me... そう言って、建物の玄関に向かって歩き始めた。%K%P And I started walking toward the entrance to the facility. こころ「誰もいない……」%K%P There's nobody here... こころ「そっか、まだ早朝だもんね？」%K%P Oh, I guess it's still pretty early in the morning, huh? こころはきょろきょろとあたりを見まわしながら言った。%K%P Kokoro said as she restlessly looked around. こころ「なんだか、変な感じがする」%K%P It feels kind of weird. こころ「私がここにいたときには、いつも悟の身体を借りてたから……」%K%P I was always borrowing your body during my time here... こころ「映画のセットの中に紛れ込んじゃったみたいな……不思議な感じ」%K%P Feels like I snuck onto a movie set... what a weird feeling. 悟「だろうな」%K%P I guess. こころ「なによ、その返事……」%K%P What's with that...? こころ「ちょっと素っ気無さすぎじゃない？」%K%P Do you really have to be so blunt? 悟「かもな」%K%P Maybe. こころ「もうっ」%K%P Hmmmph. こころはふくれっ面を見せ、ダイニングチェアにすとんと腰を下ろした。%K%P Kokoro grew sulky and threw herself down on one of the dining area chairs with a thump. 悟「説明はあとでしてやる」%K%P I'll explain everything later. 悟「でもその前に、ちょっとここで待っててくれ」%K%P But before that, please just sit tight for a minute. 悟「気がかりなことがあるんだ」%K%P I'm worried about something. こころ「気がかりなことって？」%K%P Worried? 答えずに、オレは歩き出した。%K%P Without replying to her, I started walking. こころがちょこちょことついてくる。%K%P Kokoro came pattering along after me. こころ「えっ！？ な、なによ、これ！」%K%P Eeh?
