TIPS 051: J'カンタンアイランド'

くるみが愛読しているコミックの１つ。
題名にある『カンタン』は、『邯鄲の夢』から
来ているものと思われる。
邯鄲の夢とは、ある青年が歩んだ
栄枯盛衰の５０年が、実は道士に借りた
不思議な枕で見た夢だった、という中国の故事。
栄枯盛衰がいかに儚いものであるかを
説いた言葉である。

また、カンタンアイランドの作中には
『シュレッドくん』なる猫が登場人物として
設定されており、その名前の由来は
『シュレディンガーの猫』であると思われる。
これらの要素から鑑みるに、
カンタンという響きとは裏腹に、
奥が深いコミックであることがうかがえる。

カンタンアイランドを意訳すると、
「『邯鄲の夢』の如き『島』」といったところか。

もしもキュレイシンドロームが実在するとしたら、
妄想が真実になったとき……
強固な思念が新たな現実を生み出すとき……
キュレイに冒された者は、それまで追想していた
妄想の世界から、本当の現実世界に戻るという。
まるで、無限ループから解放されたかのように。
まるで、『邯鄲の夢』から醒めるたかのように……。

ひょっとしたら、誠達がいる『島』の出来事みたいな
ストーリーが描かれているのかも知れない。

TIPS 051: E'Vain Island'

One of Kurumi's favorite manga.
It is thought that the "Vain" in the title comes from
"a vain dream of wealth and splendor."
"The Vain Dream of Wealth and Splendor" is a Chinese story of
a young man who walked through the vicissitudes of fortune for
fifty years, but in reality, it was a dream he was having
while sleeping on a mysterious pillow he borrowed from a Taoist.
It explains that the vicissitudes of fortune are but fleeting and transient.

Also, in Vain Island, there is a cat known as "Schrödy",
whose name is thought to originate from "Schrödinger's Cat".
Considering all of the manga's complexities,
it appears to be much deeper than it seems.

//TN: There was a pun in the Japanese version about how "Vain Island" was not as simple as it sounded. This is because "Kantan", which means "Vain" in Japanese, also means "Simple".

//Would the literal translation of "Vain Island" would be "'An island' overtaken by 'a vain dream of wealth and splendor'"?

If Curé Syndrome really does exist, then when delusions become reality...
When a new reality is brought forth by a firm thought...
Then it's said the person afflicted with Curé will return to the true real world
from the delusional one that they have dwelt in.
It's as if they're being released from the infinite loop,
as if they're waking up from their own "vain dream of wealth and splendor"...

Perhaps the events on the "island" that Makoto and the others are on might be depicted as a similar story.
