TIPS 070: E'Heart/Kokoro'

In Japanese, "kokoro", or "heart", refers to a place somewhere in the body that can be thought
to be the source of logic and emotion.
In other words, it's similar to the concept of a "soul".
In the past, the "heart" was thought to be located in the heart
(the organ, which is called "shinzou" in Japanese).
As a remnant of this, the word "heart" refers to both the concept and the organ in English.
Today, if you were to ask where the "heart" is located,
the most likely answer you'd get would be "the brain",
but this is something even doctors can't clarify.
Despite that there is no scientific evidence of its existence,
at the very least, the existence of illnesses associated with it (known as mental illnesses),
have been acknowledged.
Interestingly enough, that field has gone far, to the extent that the study of treatment methods for these illnesses is a very prominent field.
However, are there any treatment methods for someone who claims that they have "no heart"?
As long as it's not clear if a heart actually exists,
there is no way to medically examine whether or not they "don't" have one.
It's a difficult problem that's similar to the Devil's Proof,
and only natural that Makoto is at a loss for an answer.
At any rate, good luck.
