フランス傭兵部隊
フランスの正規軍で、フランス陸軍に属している。
1831年、フランス国王ルイ・フィリップにより
創設される。
戦争の際、自国の兵士を使わず、
他国からの傭兵を使えば自国民が傷つかずに
すむという考えで作られたらしい。
傭兵部隊に降伏の文字はなく、
捕虜になった際の教育などされない。
死ぬまで戦うよう訓練される。

アルジェリア征服、インドシナ戦争、
アルジェリア内戦などに傭兵部隊は送り込まれ、
多くの外国人兵が命を落としている。
現在でもフランスが海外に派兵する際には
必ずといって良いほど傭兵部隊を送っている。
最近では、アフガン、コソボ等に派兵されてる
様子。

A unit in the French Army. Created in 1831
by Louis Philippe, the then King of the French.%N
The purpose of its creation was to reduce wartime casualties
amongst native French soldiers by using mercenaries 
from other countries and foreign nationals instead.%N
The Mercenary Legion troops know not of the word "surrender,"
nor are they taught how to act when captured;
they are trained to fight to the death.%P

The Mercenary Legion has fought in many conflicts
such as the French conquest of Algeria, the Indochina War
and the Algerian Civil War; many foreign soldiers 
lost their lives in these conflicts.%N
Even now, any French troops dispatched overseas
are almost always from the Mercenary Legion.%N
They were recently deployed in areas such as Afghanistan and Kosovo.
