記憶移植 記憶喪失と記憶移植——。 両者の差とはこういうことだ。 例えば仮に、とある媒体Xに刷り込まれたABCDEF からなる連続した記憶（記録といってもいい）が あったとしよう。 記憶喪失とは、簡単に言うと、 このA〜Fの記憶のうち、BDFというものが欠落し、 ACEしか思い出せない状態のことだ。 逆にここで言う記憶移植とは、まずまっさらな記憶 『ゼロ』があり、そこにACEという記憶を 埋め込まれた状態のことを指す。 両者とも、ACEしか思い出せない という点においては共通だが、致命的な違いは 『救いがあるかどうか』というところにある。 記憶喪失では、XにはBDFが残っている 可能性がある。 だからもしかしたら、それらを再生できるかも 知れない。 しかし記憶移植されたXには、 初めからBDFなんてものは存在しないのだ。 この場合には、新たに記憶を、随時追加して いかなければならない。 さて、もしもオレのこの記憶内容が、 移植されたものだとしたら……。 その記憶ACEとは、本来誰のものだったの だろうか？ 『オレの意識』がオレのものであることに 間違いはないが、『オレの記憶』だけは、 オレではない何者かの所有物なのかも知れない。 その何者かは、どんな経緯があったのかは 知らないけれど、とにかくオレの内部にACEという 限定された記憶を埋め込んだ。 なぜA〜FではなくACEなのか……？ どうしてBDFは移植しなかったのか……？ もしかしたら……。 移植しなかったのではなく、 できなかった、のか……？ その人物も、オレと同じようにBDFを 知らないのではないか……？ ACEという限定された知識だけしか 持っていないのではないか……？ だから、それだけしかオレの内部に刷り込むことが できなかった。 オレは、彼の知り得る情報のみを知り得ていて、 彼の知り得ない情報は 知り得ないのかもしれない。 オレの記憶と彼の記憶は同じ。 ……そんな気がした。
Memory loss and memory transplantation——%N The difference between the two is as follows.%N Suppose that a given entity, X, has a contiguous memory (we may also call it a record) composed of ABCDEF.%N Memory loss, to put it simply, is a state wherein, for example, parts B, D, and F in the A〜F sequence are lost, and the only memories which can be recalled are ACE.%P On the other hand, the memory transplant mentioned herein refers to a state where, for example, the memory parts A, C, and E are embedded into an initially empty, "zero" state memory.%N Both cases are similar in that X does not remember anything besides ACE; the crucial difference, however, lies in the question of "whether the 'rest' is recoverable or not."%P In the case of a memory loss, it is possible that X would still have parts B, D, and F residing somewhere in the mind.%N Thus X might perhaps be able to recover these lost memories.%N On the other hand, if X had had these memories transplanted, then it would mean that BDF had never existed in the first place.%N In this case, X is left with no other alternative but to accumulate new memories over time.%N So then, if by any chance, this memory content of mine was transplanted....%P Just whose ACE memories are these, I wonder?%N The fact remains that "my consciousness" belongs to me, but it is in fact possible that "my memory" is one that was originally someone else's and not mine.%N And that this someone had planted the ACE-reduced memories inside me, so that even I myself am not aware of how and why that happened exactly.%P Why not A〜F, but ACE...?%N Why didn't they transplant BDF as well...?%N Could it be that...%N It's not that they didn't transplant them,%N but... that they couldn't?%N Could it be that, just like me, this other person lacks BDF?%P Can I assume that this limited knowledge composed only of ACE was all that was available to this person?%N And that, therefore, it was for this reason that this person couldn't put any other memories inside me?%N It might be that I'm only able to know what this person knows, and if this person doesn't know something, neither can I.%N My memory and this person's memory are the same.%N ......was what I thought.
